Winter weddings have a charm all of their own. However, there are certain things you may want to consider to ensure everything runs smoothly on the big day. We’ve put together a small list of things you may find helpful to consider in the lead up to your winter wedding.
Travel and The Weather
The weather can cause various disruptions, but these aren’t the kind of stresses you want to tackle on the day of your wedding. If you’re expecting rain or even snow, be sure to allow extra travel time to get you to your venue. If you dreamed of having a horse and carriage to escort you to your wedding venue, you may want to hire a car to take you most of the way and meet the carriage in a safe location, closer to your destination. As pretty as they are, there isn’t much to protect you from the outside elements and this mode of travel is much slower than a traditional car.
If your wedding ceremony will be held in a rural location where the roads aren’t likely to be cleared in the event of snow, or travel time to another venue will be significant, you may consider making use of one venue for both your ceremony and reception, if this is suitable.
Lights, Camera, Action
There’s no escaping the fact that winter days can be rather gloomy. As the sun rises much later and the evenings draw in earlier, you’ll need to consider the lighting of your venue(s).
As the evening draws in, the main lights of a room can begin feeling too stark or bright. Battery operated lanterns, candles or fairy lights with warm-toned bulbs can create a cosy aesthetic, perfect for warming up your guests and adding an air of romance.
Photography may be another thing that is affected by dim lighting. Before settling on your photographer, be sure to confirm that they have experience in photographing in dim light and ask to see a portfolio of the photos and examples of how they can be edited, especially if you’re looking to get some outdoor photographs. Remember, the ground is often damp or wet during winter, so take a pair of flat shoes for any photographs taken outside, to avoid your heels sinking into the mud.
